Kirby Donuts

Kirby is the cutest little character and the best little warrior, and I believe he would love these donuts I made in his likeness. I had been wanting to make biscuit donuts for a while, and when I was coming up with something to make for Kirby and the Forgotten Land I figured it would be the perfect time! While I've only played a few Kirby games in my life, the indestructible pink creature has been my main in Smash Bros. my entire life, so I truly do feel connected to the character. Tools You'll Need:

  • Deep, Heavy Bottom Pot or Deep Fryer

  • Thermometer

  • Tongs

  • Plate

  • Paper Towels

  • Large Mixing Bowl

  • Fork(s)

  • 3 Small Bowls

  • Piping Bags

  • Piping Tips

Ingredients:

  • Canned Biscuits-The donuts are super simple because the base is canned biscuits, however, if you use the wrong biscuits you could end up without donuts. You should avoid any biscuits that advertise "flaky layers" or anything of the sort, and instead look for homestyle, original, etc...The 2 that I use are Great Value Jumbo Biscuits and Pillsbury Southern Homestyle.

  • Vegetable Oil-Any kind of frying oil will work for this, but I would advise against peanut oil because peanuts to avoid any conflicting flavors.

  • Instant Strawberry Pudding-These donuts can be filled with any filling, but to stick with the Kirby pink theme, I use instant strawberry pudding. If you use instant pudding as a filling, I recommend only using 1/2-2/3 the amount of milk the package calls for to reduce how much it soaks into the donut and makes things soggy.

  • Powdered Sugar-The base for donut icing, any powdered sugar should work. This cannot be substituted.

  • Milk-Any milk or milk alternative will work with making the icing (technically you could even just use water in a pinch). Adding a little bit at a time will prevent entering a never ending battle of adding more sugar, more milk, more sugar, etc...

  • Food Coloring-Liquid food colorings will work in this recipe, but in pretty much all cases gel food coloring is the way to go, so it's what I always have on hand.

Notes:

Flavorful Filling-For a intense, fresher flavor, puree a strawberry or 2 and mix it in with the milk when making the pudding. You can also use any type of filling you want, as mentioned above, but Kirby likes pink.

Who Are You?-By switching up the colors of icing you make, you can make any round character you want with this recipe. I just picked Kirby because he's special and deserved to be celebrated.
